SUMMARY:BUILA CONFERENCE 2024: PERCEPTION MATTERS: BREAKING THE NARRATIVE
DESCRIPTION:Join Anne Marie Graham\,(Chief Executive\, UKCISA)\, Rhianna Skeates (International Careers Consultant\, Queen Mary University of London)\, Nannette Ripmeester (Expertise in Labour Mobility) for their BUILA  panel session  chaired by Ula Tang-Plowman (BUILA executive and UCLan\, Director of International Recruitment) on July 10th 2024\, at 12:00 – 13:00 (11:00 – 12:00 CET) at the Vox Conference Centre in Birmingham\, UK. \nSession Title: How do we integrate employability opportunities and outcomes into recruitment and marketing activity?  \n“Research shows 64% of students consider employment prospects as an influencing factor when choosing a university. And with UK universities marketing on an employability promise\, offering degrees with enhanced work skills and integrating career-focused activities into university life\, this is an opportunity that could put the UK on top. However\, in reality\, a high percentage of students say they are unprepared to achieve their careers goals after graduation\, which turns the opportunity into a threat.” \nThis session covers the importance of employability\, showcases activities that evidence eployability successes\, and cosiders how universities\, local government\, and emplyers can work collaboratively to meet our students’ employability expectations. \nThe British Universities’ International Liaison Association (BUILA) is a membership-led organization with a nationwide reach which suports the work and professional interests of staff members involved in international recruitment and liaison at UK higher education institutions. \nThe BUILA Conference\, scheduled on July 9-11th 2024\, will focus on the most important problems affecting the UK’s foreign student recruiting market\, with an emphasis on reputation and perception. Topics will include how UK HEIs may maintain their resilience in the face of political unpredictability and unfavorable media portrayals. Moreover\, the tactics that these institutions can use to prosper in the face of hardship as well as survive outside pressures will also be highlighted. SUMMARY:CAREER DEVELOPMENT: ‘LOOKING FOR WORK IN THE NETHERLANDS’ FOR INTERNATIONAL PHD CANDIDATES | TU DELFT
DESCRIPTION:International PhD candidates looking for a job in the Netherlands often face questions around career development to prepare for their next career step\, a step that is not necessarily taking place in the academic world. This one-day workshop aims to deliver insights into balancing your career values with your career goals.  What job opportunities offer academia vs. the profit sector in the Netherlands? What questions are raised during a job interview? What makes a Dutch employer tick? And what makes an international PhD candidate outstanding? \nThe Graduate School has chosen to deliver this workshop in person on the TU Delft premises. Stay connected\, stay positive\, and prepare for the future.    \nLecturer: Nannette Ripmeester

SUMMARY:Tunghai University: "Preparing for the Global World of Work"
DESCRIPTION:Join Nannette Ripmeester (Director Expertise in Labour Mobility\, Etio) for her session about “Preparing for the Global World of Work – a perspective from Europe and Canada” on October 29th\, 12:00 PM to 17:00 PM\, at Tunghai University in Taiwan. \nAbout the session: \n“The world of work is undergoing major shifts. This session will look at key trends impacting young people across the globe. Nannette Ripmeester will share the outcomes of research conducted in Europe (Erasmus+ projects) and Canada (funded by the Canadian government) to help us understand the impact of student mobility on skills. Understanding the importance of employability skills is critical for students as it will help to understand what skills will get them hired. However\, it is also imperative for higher education institutions as it helps to understand study choice and student recommendation better. Based on a global data set of over 122\,500 students\, Nannette will showcase the importance of creating a ‘line of sight’ between education and future jobs. Return on investment (ROI) is fundamental for this generation of students\, who make choices based on how well it prepares them for the (future) job market. Highlighting what other countries are doing in this respect is the stepping stone for a Q&A session between speaker and audience.” \nInterested in knowing more? Have a look here.

SUMMARY:CBIE2024: Beyond The Horizon
DESCRIPTION:Join Katie Orr (Director\, NSCC)\, Wendy Curtis (Dean of International Strategy\, Partnerships\, and Market Development\, Fanshawe College) and Nannette Ripmeester (Director Expertise in Labour Mobility\, Etio) for their CBIE session about Beyond the Horizon: Make Sure You Keep Listening to the Student Voice on November 6th\, 09:45 AM to 10:04 AM\, at the Westin Hotel and the Shaw Centre. \nAbout the session: \n“In this interactive session\, globally benchmarked research data will be presented to understand how two institutions use data to ensure their strategies improve the student experience and their institution’s reputation. An analysis of student satisfaction\, the importance of employability\, and the strengths and weaknesses of both institutions\, as compared to global and North American benchmarks\, will be discussed.
