SUMMARY:AIEA 2023: Understanding the International Student Experience in Germany
DESCRIPTION:The number of international students enrolled in higher education institutions worldwide has skyrocketed in the past two decades. Understanding what attracts international students to opt for a study destination and what will make them recommend the experience to others is key. Whether students decide to stay in their study destination\, return to their home country or go to a third country\, understanding what makes them brand ambassadors for their study destination is key. \nBased on the above\, DAAD\, Germany’s national body for Academic Exchange Services has run an international student satisfaction survey at a selection of German institutions in 2009\, 2010\, 2011\, 2016\, and 2018. From 2016 to 2018\, we noticed a decrease in the likelihood to recommend Germany as well as lower student satisfaction in a global comparison. If we look for reasons\, there are two main areas that stand out: the lower satisfaction around the arrival phase and the lower satisfaction around employability. Nevertheless\, based on the ISB 2018 data\, one of the main conclusions is: Germany offers a high-quality degree at a relatively low cost. The student satisfaction survey will be run again in the academic year 2022-23 to help understand how Germany is perceived as a study destination against other countries (such as Australia\, Canada\, the US and the UK) and what sets the German International Study experience apart. The main outcomes of the survey will be presented against a global comparison. \nThe 3 presenters each will bring their own perspective\, Nannette Ripmeester will paint the global comparison for the German findings (10 mins)\, Dr. Ursula Maria Egyptien Gad will elaborate on how DAAD will use the national findings (10 mins) and Dr Arnim Heinemann will elaborate how the data will be used at an institutional level and what messages have been implemented already based on similar data (10 mins). We will end the session with a structured discussion around the use of data in the internationalization of (marketing of) higher education. The session is designed in such a way that the discussion around the topic is paramount.

SUMMARY:EAIE 2022: The employability gap: What's the value of study abroad?
DESCRIPTION:Join Kellie McMullin from Nova Scotia Community College\, Gianni Samsa from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Nannette Ripmeester from Expertise in Labour Mobility for their LIVE EAIE session about “The employability gap: What’s the value of study abroad?’‘.  \nGlobal employability skills are key to students’ careers after graduation. Although there is a lot of research to back this statement up\, there is still a lot of work to be done with students before they study abroad to prepare them to properly understand and articulate these skills. This session will provide insight and strategies from two very distinct institutions – a Canadian community college and an Italian research university – on how to set students up for success. Join us – it will be fun! \nThis year’s EAIE conference will surround the theme ‘The future in full colour’ which essentially embraces the growing spectrum of tools for internationalization. ”The theme attempts to explore how we\, as practitioners\, can draw on this diverse pallet to paint a vivid and inclusive picture of our shared future. SUMMARY:EAIE 2022: Global internationalisation perspectives: What makes students happy?
DESCRIPTION:Join Guy Perring and other i-graduate colleagues for this EAIE IGNITE session about ”Global internationalisation perspectives: what makes students happy“. \nStudents have been understanding during the pandemic\, but their patience may be running out. What do higher education institutions across the globe need to do? Based on the results of a global benchmark survey of nearly 70\,000 current students\, we’ll use the Ignite format to showcase differences per region in what makes students decide to study at an institution\, what makes them happy and what makes them recommend an institution to others. SUMMARY:APAIE 2022 - March 29th: Annual Conference and Exhibition
DESCRIPTION:Join Katie\, Hajime and Nannette for their APAIE presentation about Measuring the Impact of Learning Mobility Programmes on Employability on March 29th 2022. \nStudying abroad has been associated with improving students’ employability and enhancing their career prospects. Is study abroad really impactful on students professional development or do we just (wish to) believe that? If we assume the first\, how do we measure impact? Universities around the world encourage learning mobility programmes as they understand the positive impact on their students. But is it possible to measure this impact and if yes\, how? Conceptualising students’ learning curves after mobility and helping students to demonstrate the added value to others is key. \nAPAIE2022 is the Asia-Pacific Association for International Education’s annual conference and will take place on 27-31 March 2022. SUMMARY:AIEA 2022 - Association of international Education Administrators
DESCRIPTION:Join Arnim Heinemann\, Katie Orr\, and Nannette Ripmeester for the AIEA session titled  ”Global responses to the pandemic and the influence on intled’s future” in February 21st at 11.30AM to 12.30PM CST in New Orleans. \nThe unprecedented events of the past 2 years have forced a rethink for internationalization of higher education. Despite the pandemic\, we have seen an increased focus on employability amongst students globally. This presentation will focus on how institutions can ensure that the ‘world of work’ is embedded in everything they do. Supported by (financial) benchmarking data the presentation will help us understand why employability has become a key component of any successful institution’s educational offer. \nAIEA2022 is the Association of International Education Administrations annual conference and will take place on 21-23 February 2022. The Association of International Education Administrators (AIEA) is the only association dedicated exclusively to senior leaders in the field of international education. \nThe conference brings together international education leaders into dialogue with each other\, their counterparts around the world\, organizations that promote international education\, and organizations concerned with the shaping and management of international higher education. SUMMARY:EAIE 2021 | Community Exchange: How to make bold changes to boost employability
DESCRIPTION:With her background in running the International Student Barometer (ISB) in continental Europe and North America and providing more career advice than ever before through the ELM career workshops\, Nannette Ripmeester will discuss the changes that have arisen in supporting student’s employability amidst the pandemic in an interactive poster presentation themed: “How to make bold changes to boost employability”. \nThe virtual poster will showcase that employability did not disappear from the radar amidst the pandemic. On the contrary\, research shows that students highly value the importance of employability in finding their way to the international labour market.  \nSupporting tools\, such as a digital infotainment app could ensure the appropriate career guidance funnel for each institution in guiding its students towards their future jobs. \nUnfortunately\, due to continued uncertainties surrounding travel and large-scale events\, the 2021 EAIE Conference and Exhibition in Gothenburg\, Sweden\, will not go ahead as initially planned. Similar to last year’s EAIE annual conference\, the event will take place in a virtual environment. \nThis year’s annual conference will surround the theme of ‘Bolder. Braver. Go.‘ It will allow people to think about bolder and braver ways forward in international education and around broader concepts such as society\, governance\, the environment\, and much more.  \nMake sure you save the date for 29 September!

SUMMARY:Humane Webinar | Diversity and Inclusion: fostering institutional happiness and preventing harassment
DESCRIPTION:Nannette Ripmeester will be part of a webinar to talk about ‘Diversity and Inclusion: fostering institutional happiness and preventing harassment’ on October 8th\, as part of HUMANE’s Annual Conference Webinars. \n  \nDiversity and Inclusion: fostering institutional happiness and preventing harassment\nThursday October 8th 13.00-17.00 CEST  \nThis year’s annual conference will now be delivered as part of our autumn webinar series\, over two half days. Future-focussed institutions have shifted the discussion about equality\, diversity and inclusion away from a compliance mindset to one that emphasises the practical benefits of diversity. Yet HE workforces often do not match the diversity of their student bodies and as the Me Too Campaign has shown\, tackling harassment is definitely unfinished business.

SUMMARY:Poster Session: Measuring Learning Mobility Outcomes | NAFSA 2020
DESCRIPTION:Erasmus Skills\, a European funded project developed a set of innovative tools to help Erasmus students maximize and articulate their study abroad experience. One of those tools is a function that measures and conceptualizes the learning curve of students before and after their mobility program\, mainly focusing on employability competences. \nThis poster will illustrate the Erasmus Skills project & the methodology used to create a tool that allows students to self-assess the competences acquired while studying abroad. It will show the questionnaires that students fulfill before & after mobility and an example of the visual representation of the learning curve between the two questionnaires. Finally\, it will look into how the visualization of the developed tool will help students conceptualize the benefits of their experience\, and use these results in their next steps in life.
