DESCRIPTION:Join Nannette Ripmeester (Expertise in Labour Mobility / etio) for an insightful APAIE poster presentation about “Beyond Borders\, Within Reach: Global approaches on to better the international student journey relevant for Asia-Pacific HEI’s” at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. \nPoster Information \nThis poster explores how insights from the International Student Barometer (ISB)—a global large scale dataset of currently enrolled international students—can be used by Higher Education Institutions in the Asia-Pacific region to improve the international student journey. Through a comparative lens\, we showcase how institutions across the globe are using ISB data leveraging international benchmarking to design stronger student journeys\, delivering the ROI that currently enrolled (and future generations of!) students are expecting from their institutions of choice. We will showcase Good Practice examples that reflect international student needs. These opportunities will help develop the knowledge\, skills\, and ideas needed to better serve an organization or institution\, move forward in professional development\, and engage effectively with colleagues from around the globe. \nPoster Information \nFindings from an Erasmus+ project DETAS (Digitalising Erasmus Traineeship Application & Support)\, analysing responses from 250 companies. The data sheds light on challenges and opportunities identified by employers when hosting interns\, aiming to improve future study-abroad internships and the impact on employability and skill development. \nThis Erasmus+ project is carried out by 7 partners\, bringing together organisations from Belgium\, Ireland\, Latvia\, The Netherlands and Romania. The research findings will provide employer insights regarding international internships\, a stakeholder voice often missing in the debate around the value of mobility experiences. SUMMARY:EAIE 2021 | Community Exchange: How to make bold changes to boost employability
DESCRIPTION:With her background in running the International Student Barometer (ISB) in continental Europe and North America and providing more career advice than ever before through the ELM career workshops\, Nannette Ripmeester will discuss the changes that have arisen in supporting student’s employability amidst the pandemic in an interactive poster presentation themed: “How to make bold changes to boost employability”. \nThe virtual poster will showcase that employability did not disappear from the radar amidst the pandemic. On the contrary\, research shows that students highly value the importance of employability in finding their way to the international labour market.  \nSupporting tools\, such as a digital infotainment app could ensure the appropriate career guidance funnel for each institution in guiding its students towards their future jobs. \nUnfortunately\, due to continued uncertainties surrounding travel and large-scale events\, the 2021 EAIE Conference and Exhibition in Gothenburg\, Sweden\, will not go ahead as initially planned. Similar to last year’s EAIE annual conference\, the event will take place in a virtual environment. \nThis year’s annual conference will surround the theme of ‘Bolder. Braver. Go.‘ It will allow people to think about bolder and braver ways forward in international education and around broader concepts such as society\, governance\, the environment\, and much more.  \nMake sure you save the date for 29 September!

SUMMARY:Poster Session: Measuring Learning Mobility Outcomes | NAFSA 2020
DESCRIPTION:Erasmus Skills\, a European funded project developed a set of innovative tools to help Erasmus students maximize and articulate their study abroad experience. One of those tools is a function that measures and conceptualizes the learning curve of students before and after their mobility program\, mainly focusing on employability competences. \nThis poster will illustrate the Erasmus Skills project & the methodology used to create a tool that allows students to self-assess the competences acquired while studying abroad. It will show the questionnaires that students fulfill before & after mobility and an example of the visual representation of the learning curve between the two questionnaires. Finally\, it will look into how the visualization of the developed tool will help students conceptualize the benefits of their experience\, and use these results in their next steps in life.

DESCRIPTION:The International Student Journey encompasses the selection process\, the actual study abroad experience and the next step upon graduation that makes students recommend their experience. The red thread within this poster presentation is the importance of employability. \nWithin Europe (and beyond) employability is key for both the selection and the recommendation of a host institution. Through case studies\, we aim to showcase how employability (data) can be used to attract and retain international students. What can institutions do to ensure they attract\, support and in the end create brand ambassador alumni? \nData coming from the International Student Barometer ( 3.7M international students) will form the basis. We will include case studies from HEIs across Europe and supplement with solutions to support the marketing & recruitment of international students\, what options seem to work best when students are at the institution and what solutions HEIs have taken to support the next step upon graduation\, from small scale to scalable solution based on everyday realities. Discussion with visitors will create engagement. Links to the case studies will support practical takeaways from across Europe.
