SUMMARY:NAFSA 2025 POSTER PRESENTATION | UNPACKING THE INTERNSHIP ABROAD EXPERIENCE: DATA-DRIVEN INSIGHTS FROM 250 EMPLOYERS
DESCRIPTION:Join Nannette Ripmeester (Expertise in Labour Mobility / etio) for an insightful NAFSA poster presentation about “Unpacking the internship abroad experience: Data-driven insigths from 250 employers” in San Diego\, California at the San Diego Convention Centre. \nThe NAFSA Annual Conference & Expo\, scheduled on May 27-30 2025\, will focus on the most diverse learning\, engagement\, and networking opportunities for international education professionals at all levels of experience and in every specialty. These opportunities will help develop the knowledge\, skills\, and ideas needed to better serve an organization or institution\, move forward in professional development\, and engage effectively with colleagues from around the globe. \nPoster Information \nFindings from an Erasmus+ project DETAS (Digitalising Erasmus Traineeship Application & Support)\, analysing responses from 250 companies. The data sheds light on challenges and opportunities identified by employers when hosting interns\, aiming to improve future study-abroad internships and the impact on employability and skill development. \nThis Erasmus+ project is carried out by 7 partners\, bringing together organisations from Belgium\, Ireland\, Latvia\, The Netherlands and Romania. The research findings will provide employer insights regarding international internships\, a stakeholder voice often missing in the debate around the value of mobility experiences. Although the research focuses on European employers the findings seem to shed light on employer findings in general\, making the findings of interest to the NAFSA audience. \nLearning Objectives \n\nUnderstand the primary challenges companies face when hosting international interns.\nDemonstrate which resources possibly influence the success of internships at different stages. – Identify key challenges and solutions at each phase of the internship abroad process.\nProvide tools and strategies to align the skills of mobile students with host organisation needs.\n\nMore Information can be found here.
