Session Description:
I’ll be talking about the importance of employability for students, higher education institutions and the sector at large. Based on, amongst others, a global data of over 122,500 students, I’ll showcase the importance of creating a ‘line of sight’ between education and future jobs. Students base their study choice on future career impact as well as recommend their study experience on their satisfaction of being prepared for the job market, but when we ask final year students how well prepared they are for their career goals, over 20% indicates a serious mismatch. For my input to this session, I will draw on global data (International Student Barometer) and policy research (European and Canadian research projects recently conducted by ELM) and will make comparisons as to what is happening in other regions to underline the conference themes: “breaking the narratives”. | Nannette Ripmeester, Director Expertise In Labour Mobility
The British Universities’ International Liaison Association (BUILA) is a membership-led organization with a nationwide reach which suports the work and professional interests of staff members involved in international recruitment and liaison at UK higher education institutions.
The BUILA Conference, scheduled on July 9-11th 2024, will focus on the most important problems affecting the UK’s foreign student recruiting market, with an emphasis on reputation and perception. Topics will include how UK HEIs may maintain their resilience in the face of political unpredictability and unfavorable media portrayals. Moreover, the tactics that these institutions can use to prosper in the face of hardship as well as survive outside pressures will also be highlighted.
