Careers Made in Rotterdam kicks off for the 3rd time! #CMiR

Careers Made in Rotterdam is an event championed by Expertise in Labour Mobility and the Rotterdam Municipality. The aim is to remind students, universities, colleges and companies that this city has a deep pool of international talent, which often goes untapped.

“This event fills the gap between students and their future professional life by giving insights on the career opportunities of the job market in the Greater Rotterdam area” – Italian MSc student, Management of Technology

When international students think of the Netherlands, Rotterdam is a study destination many opt for, but Rotterdam is occasionally less well known for the job opportunities it offers. Erasmus University, RSM, TU Delft and a plethora of universities of applied science ranging from music to maritime logistics cover a vast array of subjects; couple this with relaxed urban areas, a vibrant nightlife, diverse sub-cultures and an industrial atmosphere, and you have a city which is homely to its inhabitants, and international in outlook.

“…the lack of awareness…often lowers the chance of Dutch companies tapping into nearby resources and international students miss their dream jobs.” – Kakpo Adoko, CGI

Careers Made in Rotterdam is not just another career fairs – it is a totally different concept! We felt that in order to make the link between study and work, more effort had to be made to engage both parties. We also wanted to level the playing field between the internationals and domestic students, and for this reason CMiR provides adequate training for international students to prepare them for the Dutch labour market; if international talent wants to stay in the Netherlands, they have to understand ‘what makes the Dutch Dutch’ and how to act on the job market. However to retain this talent in line with the initiative ‘Make it in the Netherlands’, employers take part in the World Talent Rotterdam workshop about hiring internationals. In this way both international students and employers can highlight what each has to offer one another.

“Overall, one of the most profitable days, I obtained a great amount of knowledge I intend to use.”
Greek Bsc Student, Maritime Economics and Logistics

And so Careers Made in Rotterdam was born. Inviting international students from the region to take part, we hand-pick candidates who show enthusiasm, professionalism, and interest in staying in Rotterdam after graduation. The selection process is based on their main ambitions for the future. On the other side, we choose companies from a variety of industries who are present locally, keen to present themselves interactively, and of course, are seeking to take on international talent. Bringing together two parties with a shared interest and mutual goal is key to CMiR’s success.

“This event gives you a great insight about the possibilities for working with International students/graduates in the Netherlands. The interaction with the students made the event practical and also fun!” – Joost Kragten, Dosign Engineering

With the 3rd edition of CMiR kicking off today (05/06/14), we look forward to another interactive, positive, and constructive encounter between international talent, and the internationally focused companies of Rotterdam, creating a world city of talent in Rotterdam.
